Red, and properly red rather than maroon pretending to be red. A long clutch wallet in smooth red leather with a band of croc embossed hide running across the lower half of the front flap, in a glossier finish than the body.

It is the biggest of our women's wallets. Two note partitions, a zipped compartment down the middle, a run of card slots and a clear ID window, and enough room across the back section for a phone. The supplier calls it a hand purse and a mobile purse, which is about right: it works as a wallet, and it works carried on its own.

About the band, so nobody has to guess: it is cowhide with a croc pattern pressed into it. It is not crocodile. The pattern is embossed into the hide rather than printed on the surface, so it does not rub off at the edges.

Red leather shows handling sooner than brown or black does. Expect the flap to soften and the colour to deepen slightly along the fold within the first few months.

Questions people ask

Is the band real crocodile?
No. Genuine cowhide with a croc grain embossed into it.

Will a phone fit?
A standard phone fits the back section. A large plus sized phone will go in but will hold the flap open.

How is it different from the buffalo grain clutch?
Same size, different leather. This one is smooth and red with two note partitions. That one is textured buffalo grain in reddish brown with one.
